How we became us… PART TWO
It was 2 weeks after my 20th birthday. Andrew made a trip out for my birthday and I just had to tell him “Please do not propose to me at my birthday dinner. I should probably tell you that I would absolutely NOT like to be proposed to in a public place!”. Some of you may think that request was strange but you see.. Andrew and I were a bit different. We held off on kissing until the day we got engaged. I wanted our first kiss to be IN PRIVATE! Haha!
Here is picture of us at my 20th birthday dinner! My favorite restaurant ever.
BD’s Mongolian Barbecue.
So since I ruined his first plan to propose that weekend he had to come up with a plan b. He lived 3 hours away. I was working at bank about 20 minutes from my house. This particular day I just KNEW in my gut he was in town. I was looking for his car everywhere. I was looking to see if he would just show up or put something on my car. I was obsessed. I could tell he was acting weird on the phone and I knew my parents were acting weird too. Just a few days before he had asked my dad for permission and we just missed each other by 15 minutes. He was on my case about where I was so I knew something was a little bit weird.
I rushed home after work and as soon as I opened the screen door a card fell on the ground. I picked it up and it was it! In the card he wrote a sweet poem explaining where he was. Rising Park was one of our favorite adventures we took together. It is one of the highest points in the Columbus area that allows you to see the city from almost 45 minutes away. It is quite a hike! So in the poem he mentioned it being “high” and I knew right away. I also knew because he had made a cd of all of our favorite songs for me to listen to on my drive there.
Here is a picture of the park I took off of Google. We have ZERO images from the day he proposed. O well! Ha!
I called my good friend Jess and we were screaming on the phone! I should have been breathing, listening and taking it in but like any girl would do I just wanted to scream like a little girl with my friend! I was so amped up! Not nervous but definitely SUPER giddy! I finally get to the park and it starts sleeting a little. The winds pick up. It was freezing! I started hiking up the hill and I got about half way up. I noticed a rose along the side and bent down to pick it up.. then I looked down the hill and realized that I was so excited that I had walked by at least 5 roses. So I walked back down.. and started from the bottom. On each rose was a verse from 1 Corinthians 13 (The message version). Finally I picked up the last rose and I was hunched over and out of breath at this point. I looked over and I see Andrew looking out the hillside. I just stood there a minute and took in him waiting for me. He turned around and saw me and yelled “BABY!!”. Best feeling in the world!
We small talked. I complained about being out of breath. Cold. Wet. Lol. And then he went right to the point. Of course I said yes! And WE KISSED!! Ahh! Finally!
Look how awful this quality is? Phone cameras have come A LONG WAY! Thank the Lord! haha!
And one last image of us shortly after we got engaged! Young pups!
Next up in this series is our wedding day!
Sharing, serving, and celebrating,
