Andrew and I shared at a christian creative event last month and we had so much fun. We love opportunities to share and this one was super special. It is not always that we get to talk so candidly about our faith. It was awesome to be surrounded by like minded business owners and challenge them in their faith and businesses. I wanted to share some from our notes from that talk. If you are a Christian and in business then this one is for you!

So what is the different between a God led business and a NON-God led business? This is what we think!

I. Jesus Only

We all talk about priorities. 1. 2. 3. 4. God first, marriage/family second, business/work third… etc. However the difference here is when it comes to what we CHASE after, it can only be one thing at a time. We can not chase two things at once!

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:1-2

So what do I even mean by that? Here is a great illustrations from the She Reads Truth app.

“If we take our eyes off of God for just a second, maybe while we’re trying to get a glimpse of those good things, we increase our risk of losing sight of Him completely. We tell ourselves as long as He is in front, our eyes can wander for just a second. It doesn’t matter if you take a hard right or you are traveling just one degree off.. both decisions will land you on an entirely different journey with entirely too much distance between you and your savior.”

So to wrap this point up.. we chase after Jesus and everything else follows. We chase after Jesus in our marriages, relationships, businesses etc. We can’t chase FAME, or FORTUNE, or anything with out chasing HIM first. We chase HIM and throw off everything else… He is the perfecter and the one who leads us! Andrew shared this awesome analogy about Jesus being our dresser drawer. And in that dresser are all the drawers that have all the areas of our life. LOVE THAT!

II. Jesus Defines

• You are not what you do – what you do is only the tool God is using to fulfill HIS purpose in your life. That tool can change but your purpose doesn’t.

• You are NOT who they say you are but who HE says you are.

“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.”  1 John 3:1

So what does all that mean? You are not always going to “blend”! The world doesn’t know HIM so when we put Him at the front they know longer understand. AND THAT IS OK! We follow Him, chase HIM, and let HIM lead us and He lavishes His love on us. What a promise! Also, as entrepreneurs we tend to like control. The difference here is your business is NOT YOURS to define.. Instead we must ask Him why, ask Him where, and ask Him how!

“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.”Psalm 32:8

“Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” Psalm 119:105

III. Jesus Always

“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!” Galatians 2:20-21

Because we know JESUS LIVES IN US…. our ups and downs have hope. That is a huge difference from the world. We do not have to ride every wave and up and down of our business. We have an anchor, a steadfast provider!

• Every situation is an opportunity for Him to speak to you. When your business is led by Jesus we no longer look at situations and let them roll off but ask what Jesus is doing ALWAYS. It is amazing to see how much He is in the details ALWAYS.

• Your business is HIS IDEA.. every part of it. Not just a part of it, but ALWAYS!

We would love to answer any questions or talk further so just comment or shoot us a message!
