UNPLUGGED | Why unplug on your wedding day? | Columbus Wedding Photography

We spend the majority of our lives plugged into some device laptop, phone, tv, etc. When we don’t have a phone in our hands we practically convulse. It is crucial that we take the time to unplug sometimes and be truly present in the moments that matter most in life. By asking your guests to turn off their devices during your wedding, you are asking them to experience the day WITH you and to be part of the love that you are experiencing and wish to SHARE with them. You are asking them to relate to you and your world through their personal experience, rather than relating through their LCD screens on their iPhone, iPad, you name it. We urge you to ask your guests to be truly present and participate rather than just being observers through a device.

Additionally, we hope you have put a lot of time and effort into choosing the perfectly matched photographers to fit your style, personality and needs. When you get your pictures back do you want them to reflect your guests enjoying your day and heads up or of your guests experiencing the day through down turned faces toward their devices? Not only that but they will be a lot less likely to step out into the aisle to get their “perfect” shot and your photographers won’t have to step over people just to ensure they are meeting your needs.

While we can be the first to admit that we have a hard time unplugging, we also believe strongly in the power of turning them off and being present in the moments that are so important. Your wedding day is an important day and should be lived, enjoyed, and felt not just by you but your guests as well.

Below is an example of an “Unplugged” paragraph to place on the back of a program! Feel free to copy and use this:

“Today is the day we will cherish forever, and we are so happy that you, our nearest and dearest, are here with us. As our wedding day unfolds, we ask that you would please sit back, relax, enjoy the celebration, and most importantly, we urge you to be present in the festivities and events of the day. We have hired our favorite photographers to capture every detail of the day so you don’t have to. We want to see your face and you see ours, both now in this place and forever in our professional photos. You are the most important people in our lives, and we want you to enjoy and be fully present in every moment with us. Thank you for being a part of our wedding day and enjoy your unplugged day!
